Summer is creeping in which means we have to get our grocery list ready with the right ingredients to get that fit and healthy beach body ready in time! Before you start throwing stuff into your shopping cart, here are a few tips to help you choose the right foods to help you reach your goals.

Hunger will manipulate you into purchasing those sugary cookies or salty chips to satisfy itself, steering you away from the food groups that will give you the fuel and keep you on the right track. Having a healthy meal or shake before your trip will help you make better choices.
Secondly, be prepared with your list organized with your four main sources: protein, vegetables, fats and carbs. Throw in some skinless chicken, lean ground turkey, salmon, tilapia or maybe some tofu for a good protein source. If you really like red meat try the leanest cut you can find. Vegetables have a bad rep but you must choose the most delicious one for you because they are a key factor to getting that slim waist. Add broccoli, zucchini, Brussel sprouts, green beans or asparagus to your plate and kick that hunger away! Do not be afraid of fats, the good kind of fats. Variation of nuts can really help you stay full and provide you with great energy. Have a small portion of olive oil to your salad or meats to help your digestive system or even better, have peanut butter, who doesn’t love peanut butter?
Lastly, do not feel any guilty for purchasing carbs as long as they are whole grain or whole wheat. The right portions of rice cakes, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, rice, and gluten free tortillas will make your day much more exciting. Make sure to keep up the excitement with condiments such as honey mustard, salsa, or siricha!
Now that your list is complete you are halfway to accomplishing your goal. Most importantly, remember that healthy eating does not have to be boring. Take the time to prepare delicious meals with all your healthy items and make sure to treat yourself every once in a while. Find that balance that will keep you healthy and happy.
